Season One Results And Standings (Regular Season)

Some things before I get into the regular season results. In the WBHA it’s 3 points for a win. 0 points for a loss. 2 points for an overtime or shootout win. 1 point for an overtime or shootout loss.
There are 3 trophies for regular season records. The first is the California Cup. This is awarded to the team from California with the best regular season record. The second is the Nevada Cup. This is awarded to the team from Nevada with the best regular season record. The third is the Taylor Cup. This is awarded to the team with the best overall regular season record. This trophy was named after the West Coast Hockey League championship trophy which later became the ECHL’s western conference championship trophy.
This season the battle between the Reno Jacks and the Carson City Capitals for the last playoff spot was heated. It came down to the last week of the season. Carson City would lose and Reno would record a shutout. It will be a tough battle for Reno in the playoffs because they struggled to find wins this season. Reno only had 2 wins all season. Reno only got into the playoffs because they were able to force overtime at least 5 times (which is half the season). With the right player Reno could be a top 3 team.
On the other end of the spectrum, Truckee Stags won the regular season title. They had the same number of loses as Reno had wins. They finished the season with only one more point then Tahoe. This is impressive considering they had a disappointing preseason. So, disappointing that they came in last.

Rivalry Announcements

In this league, there are 3 key rivalries. The first one is the Olympic Valley Rivalry. This rivalry matchup is between the Tahoe Huskies and the Truckee Stags. Both teams compete for the Jack Kirrane trophy. The trophy is an old ski that acts as a plaque with the winning team from each seasons name on it. The trophy was named after the captain of the 1960 USA Olympic hockey team. The trophy is handed out to the winner at the last game of the season between the two teams. The winner is decided based on the team’s season record agents each other and aggregate score.
The second rivalry is the Silver State Faceoff. This rivalry matchup is between the Nevada Renagades and the Carson City Capitals. Both teams compete for the Manon Rheaume trophy. The trophy is made of silver. The trophy has a unique shape to it. The base is made out of solid silver. The winner of the series gets to kep the trophy until the other team wins it back. The trophy was named after the only female to ever play in the NHL. The league wanted to name a trophy after her because she played most of her professional hockey career in Reno with the Reno Renegades (according to hockeydb).  The trophy is handed out to the winner of the series at the last game of the season. The winner is decided based on the team’s season record agents each other and aggregate score.
The third rivalry is the Nevada Bowl. This rivalry matchup is between the Reno Jacks and the Sparks Railers. Both teams compete for the McCarran Blvd trophy. The trophy is a silver bowl. The base of which is made of wood and has a plaque with the winning teams name on it. The trophy was named after the roadway that connects all of Reno and Sparks. The trophy is handed out to the winner of the series at the last game of the season. The winner is decided based on the team’s season record agents each other and aggregate score.

Everything You Need To Know Up To This Point

This is an amateur northern California northern Nevada ball hockey league. This league (if it was real) could lay the groundwork for future pro leagues. This league is also the start of a national amateur ball hockey league.
All the rules for this league are identical to the ISBHF rules. Except a few. Overtime would be 4v4 for 5min, then 3v3 for 5min, then a shootout. Linesmen can also call penalties.
Games for this league are played Friday through Sunday. Friday game start times are 7pm. Saturday game start times are 5pm to 7pm. Sunday game start times are 1pm to 5pm. There are 2 preseason weeks. There are 11 regular season weeks with 10 games and an all-star game. During the regular season teams one home and one away game against each other team. There are 4 playoff weeks with 5 teams. the playoffs are a home and away series with an aggregate score. The 4thand 5thteam will play in a wild card game. 2ndand 3rdwill match up and then 1stwill face the winner of the wildcard match. Preseason is the second and third week in June. The regular season stars the last week of June. The all-star game is the second week in august.

Here Is what the refs look like for season one:

The Carson City Capitals name comes from them being located in Nevada’s capital. They play their home games at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion. The team is owned by the city, and operated by the local hockey league.

The Reno Jacks name derives from the playing cards. The team wanted a name that references the casinos in the area. They play their home games at the Reno Events Center. The team is owned and operated privately by the family of the league founder.

The Sparks Railers name comes from the city of Sparks NV having a large railroad history. They play their home games at the Reno Livestock Events Center. The team is owned and operated privately.

The Nevada Renagades were named after the Reno Renegades of the WCHL. They play their home games at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center. The team is owned and operated by the city of Reno.
Name dispute: The team wanted a name that payed homage to Reno’s hockey history. The team gave a list of 5 names for league approval. Those names were, Aces, Broncos, Gamblers, Renegades, and Rage. Once approved by the league, the city council would vote on it. The league gave the team 2 guidelines when naming the team. 1. The team can’t be named Reno/Sparks as the league doesn’t (at this time) want 2 teams with the same location name. 2. They can’t use the Gamblers name as it is too close to the Jacks name. The team finally settled on the name Renegades. The name rights to the Reno Renegades/Rage are still owned by the former WCHL owner. He would not give the name rights to the team. He took the WBHA to court claiming that the name was too similar to Reno Renegades. He won the lawsuit. The team was ultimately given approval by the judge to use a misspelled version of the name.

The Tahoe Huskies name was picked by the owner. They play their home games at the South Tahoe Ice ArenaThe team is owned and operated privately.

The Truckee Stags name was chosen by the fans. They play their home games at the Truckee Tahoe Ice Rink. The team is owned and operated privately.

The season one all-star events will be hosted by the Reno Jacks. The skill events and the game will be held at the Reno Events Center. The fan fest and other events will be held at Greater Nevada Field.
The format for the game is Nevada vs California. Players were picked by fans through a series of voting. Players qualify for either team by being born in either state or being a resident in either state for 10 years.
*On both jerseys collar is the name of the city/town each player represents (not the city they play for).

My statement on the future of the WBHA.
The forms here are just one of the platforms in which I post my graphic design content. I think they are the best place to post any sports related graphic design content. I think that because all of the members on here come to see and do the same thing. While I am disappointed that this section will be going away I am still committed to this league. I will be doing my best to finish season one before the deadline. After that I will no longer be posting on this thread. That includes even if I still have time before the deadline. I will be continuing this league until at least season 4 on my Deviantart and Twitter. I have until season 4 planed out. I have a rough outline to season 17. I might create more things to make following the league easier as well. Those would include, a wikia, a wordpress site, creating something on the Deviantart forms. I know I am not done yet, I just want to thank everyone for their interest, support and hopefully continued support of the WBHA.

Here is what the league looks like after preseason.
